 Delhi Chief Secretary Convicted for Contempt of Court 

Recently a judgment has been passed on 21 April 2023.

In Antony Road Transport Solution Pvt Ltd v Varsha Joshi [2023] GCtR 835 (Delhi), Chief Secretary of Delhi has been rightly convicted for contempt of Court. Now, after the former Ministers being allegedly involved in crime, the Chief Secretary is now found guilty of contempt of Court.

It would be proper if such government servant must be immediately dismissed from service (instead of just feather light penalties) so that respect for law and legal system can be kept intact. 

In India, number of civil servants simply join some coaching institution, spend lot of money of their parents and then join as members of different services.

Further, exemplary sentence must be given to Chief Secretary because Chief Secretary is a white collar official and if he is let off with light punishment, then many such instances of contempt may come up. 

Government officials associated with Delhi Government need to realise that merely because their Ministers are happy with their work would not mean that they get licence to ignore the law.
