 A Story on Judges

Hon'ble J. J. Bagchi was at no. 11. Hon. J. Somadder was appointed in 2006 and is senior to Hon. J. Bagchi. Somadder is now CJ. Hon'ble J Suman Shyam was appointed in Jan 2015 ; He is at No. 5 in Gauhati HC.

Hon;ble J. DK Upadhyay was appointed in November 2011. 

Hon'ble J. Bagchi was appointed in June 2011. So Hon. J. Upadhyay is junior to Hon'ble J. Bagchi. In Hon'ble Delhi HC, there is no one who is senior to Hon'ble J. Upadhyay or Hon'ble J. Bagchi. 

Also, Current CJ of Meghalaya HC Shri IP Mukherji was appointed in 2009. Hence, he is senior to Hon. J. Bagchi and Hon'ble J. Upadhyay. He will retire in September 2025. 

Another name : Hon'ble J. Sunita Agarwal [originally from Allahabad and now in Gujarat as CJ]. Appointed in Nov 2011 and equal to Hon'ble J. Upadhyay. In Hon'ble Guj HC, no one who is senior than Hon'ble J. Sunita Agarwal. 

When we talk of seniority within HC, there were cases where CJ of HC has been overlooked and other Judges were elevated to SC ; Hon'ble J. TS Sivagnanam was appointed in March 2009 and was senior to Hon'ble Bagchi in Cal HC. Hon. J. Bagchi has been elevated and Hon'ble J. Sivagnanam has been overlooked. 

Hon'ble J. Arun Bhansali was appointed in Jan 2013 ; he is CJ at Allahabad HC. Junior to Hon'ble J. Sunita Agarwal and Hon'ble J. DK Upadhyay. 

Hon'ble J. Vibhu Bakhru was appointed in April 2013 and he is junior to Hon'ble J. Arun Bhansali. 

Hon'ble J. Manmohan [currently in SC and previously at Del HC] was appointed at Del HC in March 2008 ; he is now in SC. Hon'ble J. Somadder was senior to him. 

Hon'ble J. KR Shriram is now CJ in Madras ; was appointed in June 2013 from Bombay.

Hon'ble J. SK Kait was from Delhi HC ; appointed in Sep 2008 ; now CJ of MPHC. He is senior to Hon'ble J. DK Upadhyay and to Hon'ble J. Bagchi and Hon'ble J. Sunita Agarwal.  Hon'ble J. (R) Ravindra Bhat was appointed in HC on 16 July 2004 and came to SC on 23 Sep 2019. Hon'ble CJI (R) DY Chandrachud was appointed in HC in the year 2000 and was therefore, around 4 years Senior to Hon'ble J. Ravindra Bhat. Hon'ble J. DY Chandrachud came to SC in May 2016.
