Criminal Law : Object of SC & ST (PoA) Act, 1989

Acquitting the accused for offences under SC&ST (PoA) Act, 1989 it was held that "the object of Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 is to provide for enhanced punishment with regard to the offences under the Indian Penal Code punishable with imprisonment for a term of 10 years or more against a person or property knowing that the victim is a member of a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe". - Khuman Singh v. State of MP [2019] GCtR 6298 (SC)
