Cheque Dishonour, S.138 of N.I. Act, 1881 and Place of Filing Complaints : In case of Escorts Ltd v. Rama Mukherjee [2013] GCtR 6371 (SC), it was held that "Court within the jurisdiction whereof, the dishonoured cheque was presented for encashment, would have the jurisdiction to entertain the complaint filed under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881".

However, we may point out that this decision was before the Amendment of the year 2015 where S.142 (2) was amended which provided situations for jurisdiction depending on bank branch location.
