Whether acquittal in criminal proceedings can be claimed by accused because has been exonerated in civil / disciplinary proceedings ?

The case of T. Manjunath v. State of Karnataka [2025] GCtR 1757 (SC) has made law very clear. Accused argued that since he has been exonerated by his employer in disciplinary proceedings on same charges and allegations, therefore he should be acquitted/discharged in criminal case. Dismissing the petition of accused, it was held that conviction of accused government employee can be based even on the evidence of the trap laying officer. It was clearly held that there is no merit behind the argument that exoneration in the departmental proceeding should lead to automatic discharge in the criminal case.
