Flight Cancellation and Liability of Airlines Companies

Flight Cancellation Due to Technical Reasons and Liability of Airlines Companies

In case of Ravi Poddar v. Spicejet Airlines [2017] GCtR 6523 (SCDRC, WB) after taking money from customer and booking ticket, company cancelled flight citing "technical reasons". Company had informed customer about cancellation 10 days prior to journey; offered alternative flight but did not paid any compensation to customer. It was held that Company had to pay interest amount @ 9% plus compensation amount plus litigation costs in addition to the cost of ticket to the customer. Grounds like "technical reasons" do not lead to waiver of interest liability.
